You may be able to take the language synchronously online at a participating Big 10 partner school, via the BTAA Course Share Program and Rutgers Language Center.
-
Languages are offered under an RU course number for credit at Rutgers, with no extra tuition or other charges.
-
By arrangement with the current director of the Russian & East European Program, you may be able to incorporate a language taken via Course Share into a minor in Slavic and East European Studies (861). Please contact the current REELL director to discuss this possibility.
-
You can learn more about the BTAA Course Share Program for Less Commonly Taught Languages at the Language Center's informational page: https://tlc.rutgers.edu/undergraduate/btaa.
If you would like to request a course, please start the process by e-mailing the current REELL director from your Rutgers e-mail address with the following information:
1. Your name
2. Your RUID
3. Your expected graduation year
4. What language are you interested in pursuing?
5. Do you have ANY prior experience with this language (formal study, hearing and/or speaking it at home, etc.)?
6. What is your current or prospective major?
7. Are you interested in pursuing this language as part of a minor in Slavic & East European Studies (861)?
DEADLINES: A SPRING course must normally be requested by Oct. 1 of the previous semester. A FALL course must normally be requested by May 1 of the previous academic year. If you have a pressing reason to begin the language but were not able to meet these deadlines, please reach out to the REELL Program Director to discuss your situation.
Note some caveats:
-
All courses are subject to availability with a Big 10 partner institution, which cannot be guaranteed in any given semester.
-
Bear in mind that the course may be offered in a different time zone and that the semester may begin and end on different dates than at Rutgers.
-
This program is available ONLY to current Rutgers students, and REELL works primarily with undergraduates. If you are a graduate student interested in studying a relevant regional language, we will be glad to put you in touch with our colleagues at the Language Center.
